We’ll gather to celebrate more
than a decade of local, organized advocacy for
children. And strengthen our collective power to make
San Antonio: A City For Kids.
This year we will explore
many characteristics of the landscape we face—drastic
budget cuts for human services—in the midst of
progressive local leadership and visionary initiatives
that hold great promise on path to the future.
Featured
speakers include Judge Scott McCown,
executive director of the Center for Public Policy
Priorities with an analysis of the state’s recent 82nd
legislative session; and former state demographer, Dr.
Steve Murdock with his data-informed projections of
the challenges ahead.
Other
highlights include updates on the
community visioning process led by Mayor Castro—SA
2020. We’ll meet new faces on the
landscape—recently elected City Council Members and
new City Department Heads for Health and Community
Initiatives.
We’ll hear about other
promising practices, programs, and research related to
infants, toddlers, preschoolers…and efforts to
strengthen the communities where they live.
And we’ll review advocacy
updates in our three areas of major interest: child
abuse & neglect, early care & education, and health
care.
