| Voices for Children
is a research and advocacy organization committed to
making young children's issues a priority in the San
Antonio community. Voices' broad areas of focus
include:
- Abuse & Neglect
- Basic Needs
- Early Care & Education
- Health Care
Voices carries out its mission through research,
strategic planning, advocacy and action.
Objectives
I. To bring our community together to develop a
consensus about the priority of children's needs.
- Strategy A - Gather information and gain
expertise on specific issues relevant to the mission
and goals of Voices for Children of San Antonio.
- Strategy B - Establish working coalitions
or task forces to develop a plan of action and
advocacy to address specific issues.
- Strategy C - Assemble interested
individuals through a Congress on Children to
identify, evaluate, and prioritize issues related to
children.
- Strategy D - Reach consensus and bring
forward to the public a Children's Agenda for San
Antonio.
II. To educate and advocate needs to the public,
local and state government and relevant community based
organizations.
- Strategy A - Utilize broad-based task
forces to define, refine and implement action plans
to address specific items on the Children's Agenda.
- Strategy B - Serve as a clearinghouse of
information and expertise on children's issues which
can be shared and disseminated throughout the
community.
- Strategy C - Develop media relations and
a communication plan for the purpose of public
awareness and education on selected children's
issues.

the areas of public policy, research, public awareness, and community
organizing, a portion of our budget must come from our community. We are

Mayoral Children's Forum 2009
Voices for Children partnered with the Southwest Mental Health
Center and the San Antonio Nonprofit Council to sponsor
"The Mayoral Children's Forum 2009" with moderator Ursula Pari.
Questions were created and
selected by various non-profit
organizations that work directly with the kids of our community. Topics
included physical and mental health, early
care and education, abuse and neglect, and city fundng for
children.
